Jet Li returns to Chinese film with the reporting, no kung fu film, following three Hollywood productions, a publicist said Tuesday.
Li is due to start shooting the film – tentatively called “Ocean Paradise” in Chinese – Edko Zhang Hongyan film publicist told The Associated Press in a telephone interview Tuesday. The film, to be published next year, will be directed by a newcomer, Zhang said, declining to give further details before the official announcement at a press conference in Beijing on Wednesday.
Edko Headquarters in Hong Kong Cinema is the China distributor for the film.
Chengdu Shangbao newspaper reported Tuesday that Li will not fight in the film, but Zhang declined to confirm the report, saying only: “It’s a film that is very different from his previous films.
Li last three films were American productions. His two most recent releases are “The Forbidden Kingdom” – which marked his first onscreen collaboration with Jackie Chan – and “The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor.” The 46-year-old action star has just finished filming the action thriller “The redundant”.
A former martial arts national champion in China, Li was released in Hong Kong film industry with “Once Upon a Time in China” series before moving to Hollywood, where his credits also include “Lethal Weapon 4, “Romeo Must Die and Kiss of the Dragon”.
