Are We Done Yet? Yet Another Comedy Remake

Are We Done Yet? is one of those movies that won’t challenge you intellectually or spiritually - far from that - but that might make you laugh, in case you are after that ridiculous situational humor. If you must know about the actual story of the movie, here it is: “New house. New family. What could possibly go wrong?” This tagline sums it up quite perfectly. As you might have guessed, numerous things do go wrong, from the wide range of attempts of trying to fix the house to adjusting to the new lifestyle, meaning adjusting to living in the suburbs.
You will hear many repetitive phrases in the movie, such as “Are we done yet?”, the actual title or the determinate and manly affirmation: “I can fix this!” In a way, some of the situations are met in reality as well and some are quite plausible. But most of them - or, better said, the frequency and occurrence of undesirable, yet classically funny situations - are not. Ice Cube plays the leading role, the role of a man who finally decides to settle down - and yes, the same man who tries and mostly fails to “fix” everything.
But there is one thing that you might not know about this movie and that is that Are We Done Yet is a remake of the old and famous Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream House. Sure, you might say: “Another remake?”, especially if you have seen the other versions - and who hasn’t seen The Money Pit with Tom Hanks?
OK, but you might want to know: “Is it funny?” Well, to some, it might seem too ridiculous, implausible and embarrassing to be funny. But the ones that appreciate the supposedly classical and always “fashionable” humor might have a good laugh. You decide.
