Ghost Rider - When Horror and Motorcycles Make a Combo

Ghost Rider, directed and written by Mark Steven Johnson, is one of those movies that bring a comic book character in the limelight - quite captivating and quite risky at the same time. The title of the movie itself is sort of scary, so we don’t actually have to try too hard to realize the genre of the movie: horror (well, combined with a bit of action and lots of motorcycle riding, fire and flames).
The story goes like this: motorcyclist Johnny makes a pact with the devil in order to obtain his father’s health. Obviously, the devil betrays poor Johnny (that’s why we call it devil) and Johnny’s father dies in an accident. At this point, our hero regrets the pact with the hell’s leader and wants to regain his spirit. But in order to do get away from the contract with the devil, Johnny becomes the so called Ghost Rider, an agent with special powers. On the other hand, the story also follows (in order to sweeten up the horror part) the romantic relationship between Johnny and Roxanne, who meet in two different points of their lives.
A low point of the movie is the fact that it is full of overly-used phrases that basically indicate a plain and predicable screenplay: “escape from hell”, “win the war”, so no originality here. In any case, we have to give the movie some credit - after all, Nicholas Cage and Eva Mendez are in it - and, by the way, Eva wears some to-die-for costumes. How tough can Nicholas Cage get (or, better said: can he actually be tough?) and how hot can Eva be? Well, check the movie out and see for yourself.
