2007 Razzies Awards - The Raspberry Strikes Again

The much dreaded 2007 Golden Raspberry Awards, strategically held right before the pompous Oscars night, celebrated the artistic and cinematic failure of the worst of the worst in the movie industry for the previous year. And they were sure right! Why? Well, this year, it seems that the public totally agreed with the selection of nominations and winners. And guess who the favorites (to say it nicely) were? The “super tease” wannabe Basic Instinct 2 and the “comedy/drama/crime movie” wannabe Little Man, which received not less than 7 nominations - no, not together, but each.
After the tremendous success of 1992’s Basic Instinct that BASICally took the hot love scenes featured in movies to a totally different (aplomb) level, we couldn’t have initially guessed that Basic Instinct 2 would top the list of the Razzies nominations. Well, maybe after seeing the actual movie, we guessed that it won’t be on the Oscars nominations list, to say the least. And we were so right. Little Man was another predictable one, especially since the movie received, occasionally, a maximum of two stars out of five - and those were probably offered by movie critics in very, very good moods.
There is one thing we know for sure - that the worst actress category should have been won, well, by at least four of the girls nominated there. After all, what can we expect from teeny pop singers turned into actresses - or was it vice versa? Anyway, the best examples are Jessica Simpson, Hillary Duff and Lindsay Lohan. But Sharon Stone sure overcame them all and won the (embarrassing) trophy! And so did the stars of Little Man, Marlon Wayans and Shawn Wayans in the worst actor category, where they competed with Larry the Cable Guy, Rob Schneider and even “heavy” names like Tim Allen and Nicholas Cage.
All in all, the Raspberry did a fine job, a sort of “justice job” that pleased all those who paid some dollars to see a one star rating movie, only to get (run) out from the theatre in the middle of it.
