Lucky You - When Romance and Poker Coexist in a Movie

If you ever wondered whether poker and old fashioned romance can coexist in a single movie, then Lucky You is the proof that they actually can. This does not mean that it actually works, but you should be the judge of that.
Lucky You presents the ups and downs story (well, it wouldn’t be a drama if there weren’t the ups and downs, would it?) of Huckleberry Cheever (hmm, predestined name?), a gambler by definition, a man that comes with an additional package of hassles and runs from commitments. Obviously, as fickle as he is, he meets and falls for singer Billie Offer - yes, she is a “she” and the characters sure have weird names! But the story doesn’t end at this classical bad boy/good girl kind of predictable romance. Huck’s father comes in the picture, a versed and, as opposed to his son, a cautious poker player and guess what? There is serious conflict between generations going on, as well as heartbreaking wannabe romantic scenes.
With smart, catchy and memorable wannabe phrases like “Don’t chase what you can’t catch”, a phrase said by no one else than Robert Duval himself (well, his character, actually), the movie wants to be smart, romantic and, nevertheless, educative, all at the same time. Does it manage to actually be all these things? Well, let’s say that it manages to be 57% (out of 100%) romantic, somewhere around 37% smart and well, educative around 45%. It’s your decision whether the movie qualifies as a must-see or not. And if you decide to rush and see it, and Drew Barrymore’s smile turns to be, yet once again, irresistible and if the romantic and dramatic plot turns to be quite captivating, then… lucky you.
