The Invisible - “How Do You Solve a Murder When the Victim Is You?”

We all asked ourselves: what would we do if we were invisible for one day? Well, you might be surprised to know that being invisible is a tough job - especially if you are bouncing in the border between life and death. Confused already?

It seems that today, teen characters are preferred in thrillers - first, there was Disturbia, and now, there is The Invisible. In a way, it makes it easier for the target audience to relate to these likeable, real heroes that go through hassles and troubles just to solve mysteries. OK, but what is the connection between teen characters and being invisible? Actually, the movie presents the story of 18 year old Nick Powel, the story of both his life and his death. After unfairly being attacked by a troubled girl, Nick’s body is left in the woods - even if he is not actually alive anymore, he is not actually dead either. He is a sort of a ghost, yet not quite (another confusing moment?), he is invisible, yet present in his own life, watching the police and his family desperately trying to find him.

But in order to have the chance to go on with his life, he just has to solve the mystery of his own death - now that couldn’t be too hard, right? OK, you guessed, the move gently combines science fiction with fantasy, thriller, and let’s not forget, with drama. Does it work? Is it catchy? Is it thrilling? Is it scary? You bet it is. After all, guess who directed it? David S. Goyer, the man behind Blade, Dark City and Batman Begins. Enjoy!
