Georgia Rule - Drama or Comedy?

What’s in the movie theatres this week? Let’s see, we pretty much covered the highest spots in the Box Office, so let’s take a look at the more modest positions. What can we see there? Georgia Rule!
Once you sit in front of the large movie screen, you get to ask yourself: Is this a comedy or a drama? The reality is that no one seems to know. On one hand, there is the traditional grandmother, who, you guessed, lives in a small town. On the other hand, there is the estranged, alcoholic daughter, and, at the same time, mother. And obviously, there is the granddaughter, a wild, highly spoiled Californian girl who likes guys and drinking - umm, we wonder, how come they thought about Lindsay Lohan for this movie role? Probably because it suits her like a glove? Anyway, the granddaughter, Rachel, is taken by her mom to her grandmother, as a result of acting completely uncontrollable. But granny is not all milk and honey. No, no, no. Granny has a strict set of rules - you guessed, granny’s name is Georgia, and the rules regard no drinking and dinner at six. Poor, poor Rachel! It’s useless to say that rules are made to be broken. To summarize it, the tagline says: “Georgia has always made the rules, Lilly has always been burned by them, and Rachel has always broken them.”
The thing about this movie is that, even though it tries to be deep and realist, some facts don’t make sense. Why the conflict between Georgia and Lilly, when Georgia proves to be quite likeable, after all? Ok, the move gets some credit. For what? Well, two reasons. One of them is called Felicity Huffman and the other one is called Jane Fonda. Enjoy!
