Once - A Modern Musical Full of Romance

You might be bored of all the commercial blockbusters out there loaded with massive marketing strategies. If this is your case, then you might be tempted to look for something totally different - and if you are up for a sweet, yet deep movie this weekend, then here is a choice for you: Once. You’ll get a love story described by oneness and naturalness, a simple plot, plus some quality songs, all in one package.
The story goes like this: a Czech girl who sells flowers and an Irish guy who plays music in the street fall in love. Having artistic personalities and inclinations, the two begin to play music together and to literally express their blooming love story through their songs. No, it is not a story about heroes, about people out of the ordinary, but a story about simple people who live a random, yet beautiful love. And that is exactly what the movie captures best.
But what describes best this Sundance Festival winner? As shown above, the answer is quite simple: romanticism and music. Actually, we are dealing with a true modern musical, or as some might call it, a rock musical. OK, we might have seen this combination between love and music before, but you can bet that this one is quite original. Obviously, the music replaces, quite successfully, long pages of script and dialogues. And in most cases, it does the job even better.
The movie is surely inspirational, yet naturalist, it is actually based on a unique vision, unlike the cheesy romantic films we are generally used to. And to tease you even more, here is a brief explanation of the title, just as the tagline reveals it: “How often do you find the right person? Once.”
