It’s Just A Movie

“One moment changed a family. Inspired by one family’s real story” - since this is the tagline of the film called Gracie, you might be inclined to think that we are talking about a tragic movie, which presents incredible life-changing situations. Umm, you might be surprised to find out that we are actually talking about a girl who wants to play soccer, namely Gracie. Oh, yes, and to complete the tagline: “It’s a lot harder, because you are a girl!” Didn’t we hear that before?

Remember that funny little comedy with teenage flavor - what was its name? Oh, yes, She’s the Man. The tangency between the two movies? Well, both girls want to play soccer and, obviously, both girls face obstacles and prejudices like “girls can’t play”. OK, so what if one movie is supposed to be a comedy and the other one a drama? The point is that we are already familiar with the subject. And how could we forget Bend It Like Beckham…?

OK, so we got Bend It like Beckham, we got She’s the Man - so the natural question is: what can Gracie possibly bring new? Well, a little bit more drama and more tears, to sum it up. But the fact is that the movie gets quite cheery, positive and happy towards the end, so you might leave the movie theatre with a considerable dosage of optimism and hope - yuppie! So, if you are a fan of the sport, plus if you are after some soft emotions to keep you warm in a rainy afternoon, then this is the movie for you. Enjoy!
