It’s Just A Movie

With a weekend gross of over $58 millions, Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer is leading the current Box Office chart. Are we surprised? Not actually, since it had a budget of $130 millions, so it should be worth watching! Or, at least, it should be a blockbuster. Yes, the latter statement is the correct one.

Let’s take a look at the movie’s flaws and qualities. First of all, it seems to be all polished up, yet the substance is missing, meaning that the characters could use some depth and intensity, instead of being simply sketched. But on the other side, the movie scores some “comedy points”, since it gets a little funny sometimes. Furthermore, the mood might be deficient - but it is compensated by the powerful, intense visuals and special effects.

OK, here is a little summary to help you decide whether to see it or not: Is it entertaining? Actually, it is, considering the dosages of adventure and action, combined with comedy. Is it complex and deep? No, on the contrary, it is a quite lightweight one. Is it for the kids or for the grownups? Well, the kids sure love it and the grown up fans of the genre, as well (but the rest of the population, not so much).

Actually, quality wise or, better said, from the perspective of artistic value, Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer can be considered a bit above the level of its predecessor, considering that the original got, umm, less than perfect ratings by the critics, to say it nicely.
