Broken English - This Week’s Romantic Movie

brokenenglishIf you are up for a romantic comedy this weekend, then you should direct your attention towards Broken English. Actually, it is not so much a comedy, but rather a realistic presentation of identifiable life situations, full of emotions and conflicts.

The story is simple, yet manages to be captivating, especially thanks to the great acting - more precisely, to Parker Posey. Our heroin, Nora, is single, over thirty years old and unhappy. And to complete the description, she has a job that she hates, lives in New York and has a mother that is constantly reminding her that she needs a man in her life. After multiple failed relationships with less than perfect men, she meets a charming Frenchman and her emotions take her by surprise. You guessed, he has to move back to France and she flies to Paris in order to find him. And the rest is a surprise!

Even if the story sounds classically simple, it is realist and honest. Still, you might be watching some generally-known ideas, such as “you can’t basically love anyone else until you manage to love yourself”. But this is all right, as long as you are a fan of the romantic genre, so you know there will be a couple of light ideological and psychological flavors.

All in all: sweet, romantic, yet not overly cheesy, simple, yet not boring, light and short, yet not superficial - this is what you should expect of Broken English. Enjoy the movie!
