Recruit the Netherlands “Silent Army ‘for Oscar

In the Netherlands has collected soldier Jean van der Velde child drama “The silent army” as its official entry for the 2010 race for the Oscar foreign language.

Based on real life events, the film follows a young boy Ugandan Abu, who is kidnapped by rebels and forced to fight in the country’s civil war. After he disappears, the father of one of his friends, a Dutch expatriate, decided to catch him and bring him back.

“The silent army” opened in the sidebar of the Cannes Film Festival Un Certain Regard at this year.

Nominees for the 2010 Academy Awards will be announced Feb. 2. 82nd Academy Awards are scheduled for March 7.
