Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon “star Zhang Ziyi is trying his hand at romantic comedy after a series of dramas.
In “Sophie’s Revenge,” the 30-year-old actress will play a comic book that the plot for her boyfriend after losing an actress. Written and directed by Chinese-American filmmaker Eva Jin, the 50 million Chinese yuan (7.3 billion dollars) in Chinese language film also stars Chinese actress Fan Bingbing as Sophie’s Joanna rivals South Korea and the actor So Ji-sub as the bride Sophie Jeff.
In response to written questions from The Associated Press, Zhang describes “Sophie’s Revenge” as a fun loving film.
“We will follow the journey of Sophie in the film, with its crying and laughing with her. I expect a story like this will resonate with everyone,” said Zhang.
“Sophie’s Revenge” to be launched in China on August 14 in South Korea on August 20, marks a change of pace for Zhang after four plays. She played a Japanese escort in 2005 Hollywood movie “Memoirs of a Geisha,” then an empress in “The Banquet”, the Chinese director Feng Xiaogang’s 2006 adaptation of “Hamlet.” Zhang portrayed with a friend of the late Peking Opera star Mei Lanfang Chen Kaige in the 2008 biopic “Forever captivated.” She also played a villain alongside Dennis Quaid in 2009 in America and Canada Série noire “horsemen.”
The new film by Zhang, one of South Korea and China co-production, is also his debut as a producer. He told the AP that the director Jin approached him with his script and obtained funding for the project.
“I really learned a lot more than serving as a producer. I now have a better understanding of the work flow of a film,” he said.
